Plan Your Camping Escape at a Conservation Park!
If you’re reading this, you likely already know how lovely it is to visit one of Hillsborough County’s nature preserves or conservation parks to get away from the stress of daily life. Have you ever considered giving yourself a longer break from the grind? Our county is often associated with the vibrant energy and urban sprawl of Tampa, but just beyond the city’s reach lies a quieter, greener side that can feel worlds away. Camping at our conservation parks offers a refreshing blend of natural beauty, accessible peace, and year-round warmth that makes it especially appealing for both seasoned outdoor enthusiasts and first-time campers.

Three of our conservation parks feature public campgrounds,
and each park has its own draw for campers: the reservoir for freshwater
fishing, a disc golf course, and rolling hiking trails at Edward Medard; the
beach, saltwater fishing, kayaking, and boating access to Tampa Bay at E.G.Simmons; and the winding Alafia River, miles of nearby hiking, and cool spring
swimming at Lithia Springs.
Our campsites are designed to provide convenience without sacrificing the outdoor experience. Every site includes potable water, electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire pits—just about everything you need for a relaxing stay (you bring the s’mores). Campers also benefit from being just steps away from clean restrooms and hot showers, making it easy to stay refreshed throughout your trip.

Recently, we rolled out our online reservation system for
camping. Previously, campers had to reserve a campsite in person on a
first-come, first-served basis. Moving to an online system that allows campers
to review and choose campsites up to six months in advance makes for an even
more stress-free experience.
In the online registration system, prospective campers can
view information about each campsite, including the site’s size, available
electrical amperage (30 amp or 50 amp), a map showing the site’s location
within the campground, and a photo of the site.
Camping in our conservation parks is budget-friendly:
- Regular
rate: $24 per night (up to 8 people with 1 RV/trailer or 2 tents)
- Adults
55+: $18 per night
- Adults
65+ (Hillsborough County residents): $12 per night
- For
discounts, the campsite must be registered in the qualifying person’s
name, and that person must be camping at the site each night
Want to stay longer than a weekend? No problem!
- RV
campers may stay up to 30 consecutive days; then they must leave the park
for at least 30 days before returning
- Tent
campers are limited to 14 days at any campground within a 30-day period
- No
camper may exceed 150 total days within a 365-day period across the park
system
Want to bring your four-legged family members, too? Pets are
welcome but limited to two cats or dogs per site. Owners must provide proof of
rabies vaccination, clean up after their pets, and ensure they are not left
unattended or behaving aggressively. Pets are not allowed in facilities such as
restrooms and may be restricted in certain areas.

Perhaps what makes camping in Hillsborough County’s
conservation parks most special is the sense of escape it provides without
requiring a long journey. Within minutes, you can trade traffic noise for
chirping crickets and glowing sunsets. These campgrounds are places where you
can slow down, reconnect with nature, and recharge.
