Staff Spotlight - Francisco Machuca
Even if you go hiking, riding, bird watching or kayaking in our conservation parks, you may not have had the opportunity to speak with our staff. More that 140 staff members staff and manage Hillsborough County's Conservation Parks and Nature Preserves, which are spread out throughout our county. This is an opportunity to meet and learn about the people who work hard to keep the County's conservation parks thriving and beautiful for all to enjoy. Our staff do everything from mowing and fence construction to prescribed fire, invasive species removal, ecological restoration, guided programs and more!
Frank's favorite part of the job is meeting and communicating with people and being able to work outdoors. The biggest challenge he faces at work lately, has been trying to educate the public on what is allowed on the trail, such as no motorized vehicles unless they have an exception. Due to the openness of the trail, it is a real challenge.
Frank sees the department's role in emergency management continuing to grow.
Some of Frank's hobbies outside of work are going to the gym and kayaking.
Frank lives near the Upper Tampa Bay Trail. His favorite ELAPP nature preserves are Rocky Creek
Trails and Town N Country because he can access them from the
trail.
Frank's advice for new or future employees is "Expect the unexpected and be open to anything. It will happen."
